Self medication - Aloe Vera

Having an Aloe Vera in the house, maybe on a sunny kitchen window sill, could be very handy as a first aid "kit". Minor cuts or galls can be disinfected and soothed with a piece of the aloe leaf that's cut open and laid on the affected spot. This will also help prevent inflammation.

During my stay at Curaçao last year, somebody had stepped onto a sea-hedgehog, and her foot was very painful and swollen. The people from the island immediately cut off a leaf of one of the may wild Aloe Vera plants and used it as mentioned above. The pain and swelling disappeared rapidly.

However, there's also a First Aid gel and a spray flacon, ideal for children because it doesn't contain irritating or prickling substances.

There is even a spray flacon especially developed for animals, altough, if not at hand when needed, you can always use the above mentioned spray or gel.
